The theme was COMMUNICATION. And how better to further this was the move by the Business Office in September 1993 to the Howe Avenue address. Our membership was 50,385 and the legislation was uppermost on the agenda.

The Voucher Initiative, Proposition 174, was defeated; Quarterly Supplemental payments were made providing a hedge against inflation. Support was given to the California Desert Protection Act for using revenues from State School lands to fund part of the supplemental payments for STRS purchasing power protection.

In 1994 the combined local and state scholarship programs donated $211,688 to California students, including $28,000 from the Laura E. Settle Scholarship fund granted to the California State Colleges and Universities.

CRTA was 90 divisions strong and the first Vision and Mission statements were developed. The Portfolio of Vital Information was introduced by the Resource Services Committee.

The yearlong celebration of CalRTA’s 65th anniversary tied all our Divisions together. Each celebrated during 1994, honoring their own beginnings and members. The slogan, “Alive at 65” culminated at the convention where all CalRTA past-presidents were honored as was the Pasadena-Foothill Division 1.

Communication was and continues to be the key to our success.
