1989-1991
The years 1989 -1991 were exciting, interesting and rewarding years for CalRTA.
During this period CalRTA was reapportioned from nine to eleven areas. Area workshops were enlarged and training sessions were increased. With the addition of two new redefined areas, two new directors were installed on the State Board. In this same period of time two new divisions were formed and added to the already growing divisions up and down the state.
The newly enlarged Board encouraged the Budget and Finance Committee to propose and initiate an increase in dues to $24 per year. The Membership Committee continued its “push” for an increase in membership, resulting in the enrollment of 49,000.
The Legislation Committee sponsored and secured quarterly benefits of 68.2 percent purchasing power for all qualifying members. The return of the Elk Hills Public School Lands continued to be a debatable issue with the Federal Government.
The Laura E. Settle Scholarship awards were raised from $750 to $ 1,000 each. A welcome bequest resulted in the establishing of the Mabel Outler scholarships, adding to the number of statewide scholarships available.
The Business Office was moved to larger quarters to accommodate the growing needs of the organization.
Through the various State Committees and Board working together, CalRTA continued to advance toward its established goals.
